 Apex Targa Viewer
=#=#=#=#=#=#=#=#=#=

Somewhere there is an official Apex viewer 'readme' text. I cannot be arsed
to find it right now, so here's the second best option, a textfile created
by myself, me, and I.

It comes as a .ttp application, it can be renamed to a 'gtp' app. It can be
used with a pre-TOS 2xx desktop in a tedious and clumsy typing in the full
file path method, or more conveniently for those people with a newer TOS
version, you can just drag and drop the picture file onto the app, and off
you go!

It works on anything from a bog/standard STFM (displaying 4096 colours
onscreen), through the STe family (32768 colours at once!) through to the
Falcon 030, offering a neat fake of a 24-bit mode (choose from 16 million
colours!)

In use, it seems to give marginally better results than Photochrome, with
less flickering, and will attempt to display all of a larger than 320 x 200
image. The downside is, that the dithering down can be sometimes severely
lossy on image quality. Which is where a decent virtual screen size
displayer comes in handy.

The other issue I personally encountered was a certain allergy to it
working with my SatanDisk and UltraSatan, as trying to load a picture file
direct from those disks just locked the program. The workaround for this is
to install a ramdisk and load the needed picture files into the ramdisk
first, then we are all smiles again. Others (Felice) did not encounter this
issue on his Mega STe, it might just be me, but I thought I'd better let
you all know in case it is not.
