------------------------------Tips for The Great Escape, written from Zzap!64 issue 27------------------------------There are three keys around the campwhich are used to gain access to themore inaccessible parts of the castle. The first key is easily foundin the room next to the cells, andusing it gives to rooms containing aGerman uniform. This is very usefulbecause if you wear it, you canexplore the out of bounds rooms witha reasonable degree of safety. Ordinary soldiers don't cart you offto solitary if you're discovered, butbeware of the Commandant - he spotsyou straight away. Still on thesubject of the uniform: it'sadvisable not to be wearing theuniform when you escape or you areshot as a spy! The torch is needed to explore theunderground tunnel. The tunnel isalso a good place to hide your stolenobjects, otherwise under the stove inyour hut, or the red cross room are apretty safe bet. The wire cutters are the most usefulobject in the whole game, and withoutthem there is no escape. The bar ofchocolate acts as a great distraction- just give it (don't drop it) to afellow prisoner and he attracts theguards' attention so that you cannegotiate the fence. The compass isabsolutely essential in order toescape and it's fairly selfexplanatory what you do with it!The Red Cross parcels are a bit of anuisance, as you only get one a day.However, there is a way around this.Get the first parcel that arrives andhide it somewhere safe. Deliberatelyget caught doing something bad and bethrown in solitary for the night. When you're released the next morninganother parcel arrives... Keep doingon this until you have all four. Theshovel is another essential object -with it you can dig your way throughhe blockage in one of the tunnels.Here's a curious little tip fromZzap!64, issue 41:(Use the accompanying map)Find key number one, stand in frontof the door, it opens and push thejoystick to the left while keeping the fire button held down. The result? Your morale shoots up to 100and your score will likewise increasefor as long as you can keep yourhands in that position. -------------------------------Solution from Zzap!64 issue 28:-------------------------------use the accompanying map (scroll withcrsr, clr+home, shift+clr/home) Get key one, open the relevant door and get the guard's uniform. Wear theuniform on your way out, and leavethe key where you found it. Get theRed Cross parcel, open it and get themoney bag. Put the money somewheresafe (usually the tunnel). Get key two and use it to open the relevantdoor. Put the key in a safe place,get the tool kit and unlock the doorto the room housing the spade. Takethe tool kit back to the safe place,get the spade and take it back to thesafe place, then leave the uniform.Get the tool kit and the ID papers.Leave the tool kit and get the torch.Head back to the tunnel and removethe blockage using the spade. Put thespade down and go back to get the IDpapers. Use the tunnel again, onlythis time leave the ID papers at theend of the tunnel near the exerciseyard. Follow normal routine in daytwo but get the Red Cross parcel - itcontains the wire-cutters which areessential for your escape. Follow normal routine on day three,but get the Red Cross parcl. On dayfour get the Red Cross parcel (for the compass) and you are now ready toescape. Use the main tunnel and takethe compass to the exercise yard. Getthe wire-cutters and cut through thewire. Drop the compass. Cut the wireand get the ID papers, then cut thewire again to get out. Drop thewire-cutters, pick up the compass, and run off the screen to escape tosafety. Go for it - and do SteveMcQueen proud! ----------------------------- THE GREAT ESCAPE - SOLUTION  - TYPED BY VAXALON - 1994-----------------------------DAY ONECollect the key from under thewatchtower and open the door wherethe tool kit is found. Drop the keyon the floor and pick up the toolkit. Open the door where the spade isfound. Collect the torch and thepapers and take them to the roomwhere the spade is and drop them downthe tunnel. Return to normal duties.DAY TWOOpen the red cross parcel and drop the contents onto the floor. Return to normal duties.DAY THREEDo the same as day two.DAY FOURThe wire cutters should be in the redcross parcel. Take them to the roomwhere the spade is and drop them downthe tunnel. Return to normal duties.DAY FIVEOpen the red cross parcel and drop the chocolate on the floor. Return tonormal duties.DAY SIXThe compass should be in the red cross parcel. Take it to the room where the spade is and go down thetunnel. Pick up the torch and take the compass to the other end of thetunnel. Drop the compass and returnfor the wirecutters. Go back to whereyou dropped the compass and drop thetorch. Pick up the compass and wait afew seconds. Now run up to the wire and cut it. Drop the compass outside,then return to the tunnel. Drop thewirecutters and pick up the torch. Now go and get the papers and take them to where you dropped the wirecutters. Drop the torch and pick up the cutters. Wait down the tunneluntil next morning.DAY SEVENWait until you hear the alarm for role call. Now run up to the wire andcut it. Drop the cutters and pick upthe compass - then run off-screen andyou've escaped!----------------------Great Escape solution:----------------------Get the key from the room next tosolitary. With it open the door inthe room where the food lies. Take the key back. Exploring the roomsbehind the previously opened door youwill find a guards uniform and a torch. Get them and wear the uniform.It's safer to walk around wearing it,but still remember to avoid for thecommandant. Store the torch in thetunnel under the stove in your room.Wait until you get all the red crossparcels. You need wire cutters and the compass (the second and fourthitems). Take them to the tunnel also.Get the second key near a watchtoverin the fence corner. Open the door near the fence with it and store itinto the tunnel. Go through theunlocked door and get the tools. Usethem to open the door to the other room and get the spade. Store the spade in tunnel. Equipped with thetools go open the door which is in the center of a wall in east.Exploring there you should soon finda room where the passport and a thirdkey lie. Take the passport to thetunnel. Now prepare for your escape. Go to the tunnel and get torch andspade. With a little exploration youfind a blockage. Get rid of it usingthe spade. Traversing the tunnel youget to the exercise area, so takethe passport, the compass and the wire cutters near the e.area exit.Take wire cutters and the compass andgo the the exercise area. Cut thewire, go to the other side and dropcompass. Go back to get the passport.Cut the wire again and drop wirecutters. Run with the compass andthe passport. YOU HAVE ESCAPED !There are more objects in the game, but I haven't found any use for them.But if you use the poison bottle onthe food, it turns red (to indicateit's poisoned?). What use is thepoisoned food? Or should the poisonbe used directly to a dog or a guard?Also what can one do with the third(found with the passport)? the radio(near the cantina)? the money bag (1st red cross item)? The 3rd red cross item is a chocolate bar. You can use it to bribe a fellow prisoner(<he takes the bribe and acts as adecoy>). Perhaps this should help when escaping but for some reason Ialways got busted when trying to bribe a comrade.(EOF)
